Chicken Biriyani - More than just a comestible
The very word itself is mouth-watering. They've been served since.... I don't know when. To me, Chicken Biriyani is the King of All Biriyanis, because the rest of them are quite bland, meaningless and less artistic compared to it(actually, I am alergic to Beef and I don't like mutton). Chicken Biriyanis are great works of art. Whoever invented the dish, did have some pretty deep insights into life. He/She was an artist. Chicken Biriyani symbolises life with all its richness and spice.
The presence of a boiled egg in it along with the chicken simply completes it and makes it the most artistic of all dishes(I know). We have the egg which represents the beginning, the birth and then we have the dead chicken which represents death. Both are placed within a neat pile of flavoured basmati rice with a thick gravy. All those grains of rice which have, quality and texture, unique to each of them are mixed with ghee and various spices which enhances its flavour. This could be seen as the events or experiences in one's life, or people we meet, or whatever you can think of!! They lighten up one's life and provides meaning to it or in the case of a Biriyani gives one hell of a gustatory perception which enhances our eating experience. Every Chicken Biriyani ordered, comes with a message to humanity (also to those green coloured people with antennas on their head) which says "Yes I am here now on your plate as you've ordered and my being here involved sacrifices. If it wasn't for that chicken I would've been like any other ordinary Biriyani. So you better stop griping about my price and eat me."
